Neck Rejuvenation Q & A

What is Ultherapy®?

Ultherapy is a noninvasive ultrasound treatment that's very effective for neck rejuvenation. Ultherapy may be a great fit for you if your neck skin is starting to sag, droop, or feel slightly crepey. These things can happen when you lose some of the natural stores of elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid within your body over time.

Ultherapy delivers ultrasound energy deep below the surface, to the area where your body produces collagen. The ultrasound energy prompts your body to start collagen production.

You may see results almost immediately, but in most cases, it takes time to build the new collagen. You'll notice a gradual and steady firming and tightening of your neck skin until around three months after treatment, at which point you'll usually see the optimal results. The Ultherapy treatment may help you make new collagen for up to six months. Most patients still enjoy tighter skin after a year.

How can a dermal filler help with neck rejuvenation?

Sculptra® dermal filler is a good choice for neck rejuvenation because it increases skin thickness where you've lost volume. It can help with horizontal neck bands and general volume loss in the neck. Sculptra delivers gradual but impressive results. Although it can take up to six months to see full results, your neck rejuvenation can last for as much as two years with Sculptra.

If you want immediate results, Sculptra can be combined with hyaluronic acid filler like Juvéderm® by layering the Sculptra first and then adding the Juvéderm. By the time the Juvéderm wears off, the Sculptra will be in full effect to keep your neck looking young.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella is the first injectable treatment FDA-approved for submental fat, commonly called a double chin. Double chin and upper neck fat is a common aging concern, and Kybella permanently destroys those extra fat cells.

You may need two to six Kybella treatment sessions, each a month or more apart. Most patients see a noticeable reduction in double chin/neck fat after their second treatment.

How often do I need to repeat neck rejuvenation treatment?

Dr. Elliott generally recommends yearly maintenance visits for Ultherapy. For Sculptra, you can also check in with Dr. Elliott after a year to see if you need a touch-up or new treatment. With Kybella, results are permanent so you won’t need follow-ups after your course of treatment.
